Process Approach:
For developing quality management systems, a process approach is mandated by ISO 9001. Process approach may be defined as interconnecting multiple processes to produce a set of desired outcomes. The advantage of the process approach is that it provides ongoing control between the individual processes within the system and ensures constant monitoring and continuous improvement in the system. Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) is atechnique used for the control and continuous improvement of processes and described in the following table:
| Plan: The objectives and processes necessary to deliver results in accordance with customer requirements and the organization’s policies are determined. |
| Do: Implementing the processes. |
| Check: The policies, objectives and requirements are monitored and measured against processes and product and results are reported. |
| Act: Actions are taken to continually improve process performance. |
PDCA is an integral part of the quality management system in a company. Also risk based thinking is adopted when evaluating processes.
