First year audit is generally a twostep process. First audit, often called ‘Stage 1,’ is generally a document review to verify that the organization has documented all required processes and procedures. Certification audit, often called ‘Stage 2,’ is a longer audit where auditor reviews operational records in detail to verify effectiveness of Quality Management System implementation. After the certification is awarded, an organization is audited once a year to ensure its QMS system is maintained.
